Description
With Chimaera’s debut album, you’re taken on a warm and atmospheric journey through the winter season. Imagine yourself on snow-covered paths, amidst Irish landscapes, or by the fireside in the living room. Together with the listener, you traverse the entire season, catching glimpses of blossoms blooming in the distance and the first rays of sunshine breaking through.
Chimaera is the musical duo of pianist Willem Suilen and vocalist Renée Steenvoorden. Willem and Renée met at the Brussels Conservatory, where their paths crossed in this inspiring environment. Their musical connection and shared love for lyrical melodies brought these Limburg-born Brussels-based artists together. The freedom of playing as a duo captivated them and hasn’t let go since.
Chimaera has been performing together since 2022. In September 2023, they won an award at the EU Jazz Young Talent Award, which was followed by a tour through theaters in Limburg. They have put together a varied repertoire, primarily consisting of their own folk/singer-songwriter/jazz-inspired work.
Let yourself be surprised by a fusion of lyrical melodies and heartfelt lyrics, a sound that might remind you of echoes of Joni Mitchell, Yebba, and Gabriel Kahane.
